I was born on Ischia, a small Italian isle near Naples, on June 29, 1968, into the most ancient musical family of Ischia, named Colella. When I was five I began the study of the piano and church organ under the direction of my grandfather, Giuseppe Colella. I continued my studies with Mrs. Myriam Longo in Naples and was awarded a piano, composition and conductor's diploma by the Musical Conservatory "L. Perosi" in Campobasso.
In Naples I attended the Catholic Seminary of Capodimonte "Ascalesi" and received a degree in Philosophy and Theology from the "Pontificia Facoltà Teologica dell'Italia Meridionale." My dissertation was entitled, "Imperialism, Monarchy and Messianism in the VT Prophets and Their Christological difficulties."
I fluently speak German, English, and Spanish and write and translate Greek, Latin and Hebrew. I'm a permanent Roman Catholic deacon, and my ministry—in association with Don Pasquale Sferratore—is at the parish of St. Michael's in Forio. Also, I contribute biblical and philosophical essays to the Naples-based Theological magazine "Asprenas."
In addition to leading many piano and church organ concerts, I'm the conductor of the "Schola Cantorum Lauretana", a choir with 15 vocalists, and am also the Brass Band conductor. Occasionally I conduct the orchestra of the Royal Theater of San Carlo in Naples.
In my profession I travel the world: Germany, France, USA, and Argentina. My most recent important musical event was in Buenos Aires, representing Italy at the Centenary of the Lyrical Theater of Avellaneda, at which I conducted a "Lirico-Sinfonico" featuring the famous Ischian Baritone, Gaetano Maschio.
I'm happily married to Francesca and we have a son, Luciano, who also has a great interest in music performance.
Since 1995 I have taught at the Balsofiore High School in Forio.
